Ban Gioc Waterfall

Vietnam’s most beautiful waterfall

Ban Gioc Waterfall on the Quy Xuan River is located in Cao Bang Province, nears the Sino-Vietnamese border. Today, Ban Gioc Waterfall is considered to be the most beautiful waterfall in Vietnam, located on the border between Vietnam and China. It is also noted as the largest natural waterfall in Southeast Asia and the fourth largest in waterfalls on a national boundary.

The waterfall falls thirty meters. It is separated into three falls by rocks and trees, and the thundering effect of the water hitting the cliffs can be heard kilometers away from Trung Khanh.

The rains at the start of winter season create majestic flows cascading down many steps, forming various large waterfalls and mist flies like a white silk stripping across the ridge .

Ban Doc Waterfall is situated in Dam Thuy Commune, Trung Khanh District. The Quay Son River rises from China flowing into Vietnam in Po Peo (Ngoc Khe Commune) and to communes including Dinh Phong and Chi Vien. When it reaches Dam Thuy Commune of Trung Khanh District, the mild river circles around Co Muong mountain bottom and flows to rice fields of Dam Thuy towards the large maize alluvial plain of Ban Gioc village. Here, the flow divides into many branches and lowers its flow to creat Ban Gioc Waterfall.

Ban Gioc Waterfall is divided into 2 branches. The large branch with low elevations flows through low limestone steps. The other is smaller but higher, flowing gently like the beautiful girl’s hair. In addition to the two falls that can be easily seen below, many adventurers climb the trail to admire the second and third floors of the falls. The second floor of the waterfall is a small lake bed about 30 m wide, water flows from small streams into the lake and from the lake down to the first waterfall. The highest level of the falls is the small one but fast flowing stream. Exploring these places is very dangerous, especially in the flooding water season. Because the path is purely a trail and easy to slip. Therefore, you should not swim in the waterfall, especially in the flood season.
