That information was mentioned at the press conference about the sailboat race around the world Clipper 2015 -2016 by Da Nang City People’s Committee held in the afternoon of January 12th, 2016. Accordingly, as expected, form February 17th to February 27th, 2016, Clipper sailboat racing team will arrive in Da Nang.
About Clipper Race
At the press conference, Da Nang City People’s Committee said, since Clipper Race 2015-2016 began from London (UK) in August, 2015, the race has surpassed 18,000 beaver in out of 40,000 beaver in its journey, in which twice crossed the Atlantic, once crossed the Southern Ocean and three times crossed Bass Strait between Sydney and Tasmania of Australia, one of which is famous Rolex Sydney to Hobart race.
“Da Nang – New discovery of Asia” race
On January 18th, 2016 the team will start “Da Nang – New discovery of Asia” race. The team Da Nang – Vietnam has a total of 58 members, with ages from 19 to 67. The members come from many countries, including the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Qatar, Singapore, Colombia, Sweden, Israel, Mexico, Chile and Vietnam.
In the race from Airlie Beach (Australia) to Da Nang upcoming, team Da Nang – Vietnam will have 16 sailors participated, of which only one sailor is Vietnamese, Nguyen Tran Minh An (from Da Nang) participated in the race. To promote the event, in 10 days the race delegation stops in Da Nang, Da Nang City People’s Committee will organize 19 related activities, of which there are discussions to promote proper connection.
The preparation of Da Nang for the race
To ensure that the team can cross Thuan Phuoc bridge to Han River Port conveniently, Da Nang has invested 5.7 billion VND for dredging, setting new flows, expected to be completed at the end of January, 2016. Besides, Da Nang will also implement on the “soft” wharf on the base of solutions and specifications for anchoring, “soft” wharf arrangement at the request of the organizers and complete some additional temporary items (lighting, water, …) in Han River Port to serve the operation of cruise ships as well as supply meets of the Clipper team, with an investment cost of over 1.2 billion VND.
